Ester Peony’s birthday is 21 July 1993 according to her celebratory post on Instagram.
Her most popular song, to date, is “On A Sunday” which will be the track that she’ll perform in Tel Aviv at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in May.
She was born in Campulung, Romania but spent a few years of her childhood in Montreal, Canada. She started studying classical music and in 2013 she enrolled at the Music Interpretation Faculty in Bucharest, where she studied jazz music.
Under the name Ester, she released her debut single in 2014, which was a collaboration with Ana Baniciu and Puya, titled “Cuminte de Craciun” and featured Doddy, Vescan, and Mahia Beldo. She next went into songwriting and also released some covers, but in 2015 she focused on her singing career, gaining over 16 million YouTube views for her single “Sub aripa ta” which featured Vescan. She continued on by releasing a few more singles and also featured on Vescan’s single “Oameni” alongside Alan and Kepa.
Last year, 2018, saw her drop her debut EP titled Dig It, which contained four tracks.and a few months later she co-wrote “On A Sunday” with Alexandru Serbu and Ioana Victoria Badea, which went on to win the Romanian selection show to Eurovision, Selectia Nationala. She’ll be performing the song on the Eurovision 2019 stage in Tel Aviv, Israel.
